Churchill Iron Curtain Speech
Depicts the onset of the Cold War dividing Western and Soviet controlled powers.
Truman Doctrine
In line with the Iron Curtain Speech, Truman proclaims that any country that is under the threat of communism will receive support from the United States. This Doctrine is first applied with the post WWII Greece and Turkey. If these countries are helped in reconstruction they will be less likely to turn to communism
Military Industrial Complex
Will see an influx of standing armies including the minting of a new branch in the military; Air Force and Air Force Academy.
Marshal Plan
US giving money to Europe to assist in post WWII reconstruction while also preventing the potential of any communist movements. Any USSR state will not be allowed to receive any aid.
Germany
Allies divide Germany into four quadrants, while the other nations leave, Soviets establish more permanent installments.
North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO)
United States first mutual defense treaty. In the case that anyone from NATO gets attacked, then all countries will attack or send some form of aid. SEATO is the same thing except with South East Asian countries.
Warsaw Pact
USSR and Satellites unite. This was a reaction to the development of NATO
Berlin Airlift
Despite erecting a Communist Eastern Berlin, US and the West continue to give Westerners goods through airlifts.
CIA
Created by the National Security Act of 1947 to expand the governments espionage tactics. Organization would often sabotage communist movements in other countries. Through agitation of local populations, propaganda, and assistance of pro western forces.
Joseph R. McCarthy
Wisconsin Senator who led tons of often irrational investigation against potential "Red" threats. This was in a sense an Anti-Communism crusade. Associated with the 2nd Red Scare.
38th Parallel
Negotiations between North and South Korea fault and the South is invaded by North. US Sends troops to help the South, proxy war for Soviet and US conflict.
1949 China and Mao
Mao Zedong and communist toppled Nationalist Government and China becomes Communist. With fear of the US sending troops to help nationalist retake China, China signs a mutual defense treaty with the Soviet Union.
Housing Act of 1949
With Truman's Re-election a domestic push to help the poor became top priority. As a result the minimum wage was raised and modest improvements in social security also took place. The Housing Act established 810,000 units of public housing. And although this seemed ideal, many of these poor would later be misplaced when there home were destroyed.
