Civil Rights Act of 1866
guarantees equal housing opportunities to all US citizens by prohibiting discrimination based on race
Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968
prohibits discrimination practice in housing based on race, color, religion or national origin
Fair Housing Act (1974 and 1988)
prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin

also prohibits discrimination against people because of their association with persons in the protected classes

Housing intended for 62 years+ or housing occupied by at least one 55 years+ (where 80% of the units are occupied by 55 years+) is exempt from the familial status protection

state registration systems maintain residential information on every person who kidnaps children, commits sexual crimes against children, or commits sexually violent crimes
