Define Chronicles

Chronicles is Epic's database - all of Epic's applications use it to store data. It's the filing cabinet that stores everything.

Define Master Files

Master files are the drawers in the filing cabinet that is Chronicles. Each master file stores all of the files about the same "type" of thing

Dynamic: Master files updated by front end staff. Example - Patient Master File

INI = initials. The initials for each master file.

Define Record:

REcords are the folders in each master file. Each folder represents one thing stored in the master file. Example: Each patient has a record in the Patient Master File

Define Contact:

A contact is a date-specific snapshot of the data within an individual record. EX: all infomration about a patient that applies to a recent encounter is stored in a contact.

Define Item:

A discrete piece of information about a record. EX: when you register a patient, each filed you fill out is an item (marital status = item, english fluency = item). The item is the question prompt.



Define Value:

If the item is the question prompt, the value is the answer. Values are the information stored in each item field
