Air-water syringe
aslo referred to as the three-way syringe, emits water, air, or a combination of both in a spray
Dry angles

is used to remove water, saliva, blood, and debris
Fulcrum

Modified pen grasp

Palm-thumb grasp
the operator grasps the handle of the instrument int he palm of the hand with the four fingers wrapped around the handle while the thumb is extended upward from the palm
Pen grasp
is when an instrument is grasped in the same manner as a pen or pencil; the instrument is held between the pad of the thumb and the pad of the index finger, with the side of the middle finger on the opposite side of the thumb
Reverse palm-thumb grasp
the instrument tip is held in the palm of the hand with the thumb directed toward the assistant instead of toward the patient
Saliva ejector
is the low-volume evacuation system; it is a flexible plastic tube about one-third the size of the HVE tube; is bent and then positioned between the tongue and the mandibular teeth or between the cheek and the mandibular teeth
Tactile
the feeling sensed by touch
Thumb-to-nose grasp
same as the reverse palm-thumb grasp
Transfer zone
the area just below the patients nose near the chin where the transfer of instruments between operator and assistant takes place
