Battle of Vicksburg
The final major military action in the Vicksburg Campaign, the union Crossed the Mississippi river and drove the confederate army in the defense line surrounding the fortress city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. When sieges didn't work, the union besieged (surrounded the city) and won the battle, leading Robert E. Lee in the Battle of Gettysburg.

Copperheads
Vocal Group of Democrats in the Union who opposed the civil war, wanting immediate peace with the confederates. The republicans called this group copperheads, linking the to the poisonous snake. to them, copper was a likeness of liberty. Were often called butternuts for the color of the confederate uniform.
New York Draft Riots 1863
In new York, the new law which drafted men to join the union for the civil war if they could not pay the $300 dollar Commutation Fee to exclude themselves from draft. The working class men found this unjust and rioted for 4 days. The drive for the riot was because if the union won the civil war, blacks would be a competition for work, so the riots was more a racial thing than a civil thing. Since the police was at war, the riot continued until the military came.
Appomattox
April 9 1865, final battle of the civil war. After the siege of petersburg, Robert E lee, last stand was the Appomattox court house. Failed and Surrendered.
Trent Affair
International Diplomatic incident that occurred during the civil war.
During 1861, The UUS San Jacinto, commanded by the Union Captain Charles Wilkes, removed as contraband of the British Mailing packet Trent, to get Europe's Attention of the Civil War and get some help, but the British found it as a cause for war and the union didn't want that. In the end, Lincoln released the envoys to the British.
