duodenum

the small intestine is divided into three sections: the Duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The duodenum is the first of the three sections. its name means twelve and refers to the fact that its length is about the same as the width of 12 fingers.

jejunum

The jejunum is the second of the small intestine's three sections. its name means empty and refers to the fact that it is found empty during dissections.

ileum

The ileum is the third of the small intestine's three sections. its name means groin and refers to the fact that it is located in the lower abdomen.



sigmoid colon

the sigmoid colon is at the end of the colon, before the rectum begins and it has an s-shaped curve.
