Hutchinson vs. Senator William Proxmire of Wisconsin

Dr. Ronald Hutchinson, then the research director at Michigan state mental hospital. Filed a civil complaint against Proxmire for his statements during a 1975 speech. Hutchinson claimed Proxmire defamed him and sought $8 million in damages. They eventually settled it outside of court. Hutchinson received $10,000 in damages

Sam Sheppard Case
|
Began with the death of his wife Marilyn on July, 1954. After one month of investigation, Sam was arrested on a charge of murder on July 30. In 1965 the US Supreme Court agreed to consider Sheppard's contention that he was denied a fair trial because of sensational media coverage.
