What is a project?
A project is a temporary endeavor with a beginning and end that creates a unique product, service or result.
What is operational work and how is it different that a project?
Operational work is ongoing to support the business and systems of the organization.

What is project management?
Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activates to meet the project requirements. This is accomplished through the application of the five process groups.

What is a program?
A program is a group of projects whose management is coordinated because the projects are related.
Whenever you have more than one project you can manage them separately or if there is a benefit to it, you can manage the projects together in a program.
What is a portfolio?
A protfolio can be generally described as a group of programs, individual projects and related operational work to achieve a specific straregic business goal.
The programs may not be related other than that they are helping to acheive the specific straregic business goal.

What are the three roles of the PMO?
The Project Management Office centralized the management of projects.

1) Provides the policies, methodologies, and templates for managing projects.

2) Provides support and guidance to others.

3) Provides project managers for different projects and is responsible for the result of those projects.
What are some of the activities that the PMO may do?
1) Manage interdependencies between projects
2) Help provide resources
3) Terminate Projects
4) Monitor compliance with organizational processes
5) Gather lessons learned and make them available
6) Provide templates (WBS)
7) Provide Guidance
8) Provide centralized communication about projects
9) Be more involved early on rather than later.
