emergence of the Maurya empire

late 320’s B.C.E, Chandragupta Maurya took advantage of the rare opportunity to expand amd laid the foundation for the Maurya empire

Emperor Ashoka

-reigned during the peak of the Mauryan empire, 268 to 232 B.C.E.


-Ashoka conquered the kingdom of Kalinga in 260 B.C.E


-ruled through a tightly organized bureaucracy & established his capital, in the fortified city of Pataliputra
