(I used to talk.)(I would talk.)
Verbs with ain imperfect stem that ends in -i (étudier: étudi-) have a double i in the first and second person plural of the imparfait; nous étudiions, vous étudiiez.
verbs with stems ending in -c or -g have a spelling change when the imparfait ending start with a; je mangeais, nous mangions; elle commençait, nous commencions.
The verb être has an irregular stem in the imparfait; ét-. The ending, however are regular:

te (t') -you vous- you
le (l') - him, it les-them
la (l') - her, it
Direct objects are nouns that receive the action of the verb. They usually answer the question What? or Whom?
Direct object pronouns ( les pronoms complément d'objet direct)
Usually, French direct object pronouns immediately precede the verb in the present and the imperfect tenses and the auxiliary verb in the passé composé
Example:
Robert compose le numéro.
Robert le compose.
Robert composait le numéro
Robert le composait.
In the passé composé, the past participle is generally used in its basic form. However, when a direct object-noun or pronoun- precedes the auxiliary verb avoir plus the past participle, the participle agrees with the preceding direct object in gender and number.

je l'ai lu.

J'ai lu les journaux.
Je les ai lus.
