Who was Carnegie?

Scottish-American industrialist who led the enormous expansion of the American steel industry in the late 19th century. He built a leadership role as a philanthropist for America and the British Empire.

Who was Bell?

Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-born scientist, inventor, engineer and innovator who is credited with inventing the first practical telephone.

What is consumerism?

What is the Gilded Age?

The late 19th century, from the 1870s to about 1900. The Gilded Age: which satirized an era of serious social problems masked by a thin gold gilding.

Describe Social Darwinism.

1870s: apply biological concepts of natural selection and survival of the fittest to sociology and politics

Contrast vertical integration & horizontal integration monopolies.

Vertical integration: business model, companies expand by gaining control of their entire supply chain.


Horizontally integrates: it acquires or merges with other companies that do the same thing.
