adaptability

cohesion

communication

Adaptability

can range from being very chaotic to being very rigid, has the ability to change and adapt

Cohesion

how cohesion is the family, the bonding, the feeling of belonging, it goes from the extreme of being very tight to a place of being very enmeshed-your enabling and your blind to it

Communication

depends on family pattern, some families are very conversational while some are very conformative

Family Communication Patterns Model

is based on the idea that communication in families can be described in terms of two dimensions, the level of conversation and the level of conformity

Family Communication Patterns Model's two dimensions level of conversation and level of conformity produce 4 types of families

Consensual Families

pluralistic families

protective families

laissez faire families

Consensual Families

tend to be more higher orientation to conversation and conformity, you grow up with certain values and norms however when something happens you are open to have a conversation and you do what mom and dad say

Pluralistic Families

tend to be more higher orientation to conversation and lower to conformity, very loose open, can talk about anything

Protective Families

real low in conversation but high in conformity because the whole idea is to protect

Laissez Faire Families

very free, not much restriction on conversation or conformity
