What is the role of the root?

The two main functions of roots are to deliver water and nutrients to the plant or tree and provide an anchor that keeps the plant or tree in the soil. Roots are generally the first part of any plant that emerges during germination.

What is the role of the stem?

A stem connects the roots to the leaves, provides support, stores food, and holds the leaves, flowers, and buds.

What is the role of the leaf?

Contains chlorophyll and other pigments to absorb light energy for photosynthesis. Network of vascular bundles (veins) support the leaf, and transport water and carbohydrates.

Describe the difference between unicellular and multicellular organisms

Unicellular organisms are made up of 1 cell. These organisms rely on simple diffusion to meet their needs. All 7 life processes take place in this 1 cell. Multicellular organisms are those which are made up of many cells. Multicellular organisms can be much larger and more complex. This is because the cells of the organism have specialised into many different types of cells such as nerve cells, blood cells, muscle cells all performing different functions.

What is a specialised cell?

These in multicellular organisms are modified to carry out a particular function, such as transporting a certain substance or executing a specific task.

What is the "Hierarchy" of organs from the smallest up?

cell > tissue > organ > organ system > human body
