Cell

The smallest structural and functional unit of an organism

Cell theory

Cell theory is a scientific theory which describes the properties of cells.

Plasma membrane

is a biological membrane that separates the interior of all cells from the outside environment.

Organelle

an organelle is one of several structures with specialized functions, suspended in the cytoplasm of a eukaryotic cell

Eukaryotic cell

An organism whose cells contain a nucleus surrounded by a membrane and whose DNA is bound together by proteins (histones) into chromosomes.

prokaryotic cell

These proteins are expressed by all organisms ranging from prokaryotes to higher eukaryotes, including human cells. In a few organisms called prokaryotes, there is no defined nucleus and the DNA is found throughout the cell

Selective permeability

A selectively permeable cell membrane is one that allows certain molecules or ions to pass through it by means of active or passive transport.

Cytoplasm

the cell substance between the cell membrane and the nucleus, containing the cytosol, organelles, cytoskeleton, and various particles.

Ribosomes

a tiny particle consisting of RNA and associated proteins, found in large numbers in the cytoplasm of living cells.

Nucleus

the central and most important part of an object

Golgi apparatus

a complex of vesicles and folded membranes within the cytoplasm of most eukaryotic cells, involved in secretion and intracellular transport.

Centriole

a minute cylindrical organelle near the nucleus in animal cells, occurring in pairs and involved in the development of spindle fibers in cell division.
