Cell Wall
A rigid layer of nonliving material taht surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms.
Cell membrane
Controls the substances that come in and out of a cell.
Nucleus
The brain or control center of the cell, directing all of the cell's activities.
Chromatin
Contains genetic material, the instructions that direct the functions of a cell.
Cytoplasm
The region between the cell membrane and the nucleus. A thick, gel-like fluid.
Mitochondria
Called the powerhouse of the cell, because they produce most of the energy the cell needs to carry out the functions.
Endoplasmic reticulum
A maze of passageways that carry proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another.
Ribosomes
Small grainlike bodies. Function as factories to proteins.
Golgi bodies
The cell's mailroom. Receive protein and other materials from the endoplasmic reticulum, package them & distribute them to other parts of the cell.
Chloroplast
Capture energy from sunlight and use it to produce food for the cell.
