Prokaryotic Cells

Simple cells that are "before" aka Prokaryon. They have no nucleus.

Eukaryotic Cells

Complex cells with a nucleus and sub-cellular structures (organelles). All fungi, plants, and animals are eukaryotes.

Outside layer of a Eukaryotic Cell

Plasma mebrane or "plasmalemma".

Middle part of a Eukaryotic Cell

Cytoplasm. Gelatin-like substance, plus natural fibers and organelles. NOT the nucleus.

Center of a Eukaryotic Cell

Nucleus. Contains the genetic library of a cell.

Qualities of a plasma membrane.

Forms outer cell boundary and separates the cell's internal environment from the outside environment. Selectively permeable, allowing the passage of SOME things but not all.

Qualities of the Cytoplasm

Mostly water, contains all cellular contents between the plasma membrane and the nucleus. Contains Organelles which are subcellular structures embedded in cytosol which have specific shapes and functions.

Qualities of the Nucleus

Large organelle containing DNA in molecules called chromosomes. Each chromosome consists of a single molecule of DNA and associated packaging proteins. A chromo
