Describe the Layers of the TCP/IP Architecture.

What does the TCP/IP Application layer do?
Provides the interface between the software running on the computer and the network itself. This layer includes a large number of protocols.
Describe what "Same layer interaction on different computers" means
The 2 computers use a protocol to communicate with the same layer o another computer. The protocol defined by each layer uses a header that is transmitted between the computers, to communicate what each computer wants to do
Describe what "Adjacent layer interaction on the same computer: means?
On a single computer, one layer provides a service to a higher layer. The software or hardware that implements the higher layer request that the next lower layer perform the needed function.
What does the TCP/IP Transport layer do?
Provides services to the various application layer protocols. eg., error recovery.
What is the protocol for the TCP/IP Internetwork layer?
Internet protocol (IP)
What does the TCP/IP Internetwork layer do?
*IP defines addresses so that each host computer has a different IP address
*IP defines the process of routing so that routers can chose where to send packets of data so they are delivered to the correct destination.
*Defines much of the details needed to implement the necessary networking infrastructure.
Define Internet Protocol
*Defines IP addresses (logical addresses) that allow TCP/IP speaking devices (called IP Hosts) to communicate.
*Also defines how a router should forward, or route, packets of data.
What does the TCP/IP Network Interface layer do?
*Defines the protocols and hardware required to deliver data access some physical network.
*This layer includes a large number of protocols
Define the term "Network Interface"
This layer defines how to connect the host computer, which is not part of the network, to the network;It is the interface between the computer and the network.
Define Data Encapsulation
process of putting headers and trailers around some data. A computer that needs to send data encapsulates the data in headers of the correct format so that the receiving computer will know how to interpret the received data.
