What commands could you use to have a gateway router allow internet acces to the entire network?
Gateway(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 206.143.5.2
Gateway(config)#ip default-network 206.143.5.0
0.0.0 0.0.0.0 and exit the inerface instead of the next hop.
What is a split horizon?
Informaiton about a route should not be sent back in the direction from which the original update came.
What ICMP message would a distant router send if a distant host is trying to reach one of it's local hosts but the router's interface is down?
The router would use an ICMP destination unreachable message to inform the distant host that the local host cannot be reached.
what command displays RIP routing updates?
debug ip rip
What do holddown timers do?
Allow time for a network to become stable in the case of a flapping link
If "debug ip rip" on your router counsole shows that 172.16.10.0 is being advertised with a metric of 16, what does it mean?
The metric indicates hops. RIP cannot have 16 hops by default so this message means the address is inaccessible
What could cause a route on the routing table to not be shared with other routers?
If a route already has 15 hops it won't be shared because then it would have 16 hops on the other router, which RIP doesn't allow
What is route poisoning?
It describes when a router sets the metric for a downed link to infinity. Used to avoid problems caused by inconsistent updates and to stop network loops. Route poisoning is done by the distance-vector routing protocol.
What do RIPv1 and RIPv2 have in common?
RIPv2 is pretty much just like RIPv1. It ahs the same admin distance, timers, and is configured the same. RIPv2 supports classless routing by sending subnets, unlike RIPv1, and uses multicasts rather than broadcasts
What protocol does EIGRP use to manage communication of messages between EIGRP routers?
RTP
What are the three tables EIGRP use and what is the purpose of each?
Neighborship table, records information about neighbor routers
Topology table, stores route advertisements about every route in the internetwork received from each neighbor
Route table, stores the routes that are currently used to make routing decisions
What are the ranges of OSPF process identifiers and area numbers? Which one does not have to be consistent with other routers?
Process ID 1-65,535, need not be consitent
area numbers 0 to 4.2 billion, must be consistent
Which OSPF area is the backbone area?
Area 0
Is OSPF a distance-vector or a link-state protocol? How about EIGRP?
Link-state, EIGRP is hybrid but mostly distance-vector
What are the default hello and dead timers in OSPF? What happens if they don't match between routers?
10 for hello, 40 for dead
If they don't match no adjecency relationship will be formed.
What is the multicast IPv6 OSPFv3 addresses?
FF02::5
FF02::6
What is the multicast addresses for RIPng?
FF02::9
What multicast addresses does EIGRPv6 use?
FF02::A
Which command is required for connectivity in a Frame Relay network if Inverse ARP is not operational?
fame-relay map
Which data link layer encapsulation services multiple virtual circuits and protocols between connected mechanisms?
Frame Relay
Define these acronyms: DLCI, LMI, PVC
DLCI: Daata link connection identifyer, used to identify virtual circuits in a fram relay network
LMI: Local management interface, an enhancement to original frame relay
PVC: permenant (as opposed to switched) virtual circuit
Is Frame Relay multi-point or multi-access?
Frame relay is a Non-broadcast multi-access (NBMA)
When would you use this command: encapsulation frame-relay ietf?
When you are configuring a router for a frame relay connection to a non-cisco router.
Between HDLC, Frame Relay, and PPP which supports dynamic addressing, authentication using PAP or CHAP, and callback services?
PPP
Name two WAN encapuslations that can be configured on an asynchronous serial connection?
ATM, PPP
What connection type uses ATM as the Data Link layer protocol that's terminated as the DSLAM?
DSL
In the Setup dialog, what do the square brackets ([]) indicate?
Default settings
What router component store routing tables?
DRAM
What version is the default version of RIP and what must you specifiy in it?
Rip v1, you must specify all directly connected networks
What does Cisco use to identify frames as they travers a switched VLAN fabric?
Cisco uses the protocol Inter-Switch Link (ISL) for frame tagging in a switched VLAN fabric.
What is used with holdowns to tell neighbor routes about a change in the network?
Triggered updates
What does frame tagging assign and where is it located?
Frame tagging assigns a unique user-defined ID to each fram and places it in the header of each frame as it is forwarded between switches
How is a bridge ID assigned?
Priority and MAC address
Which type of access list should be placed closest to the source?
Extended
Which type of access list should be placed close to the destination?
Standard
Advanced editing features are enabled by default for which modes?
All router exec modes
Is loopback enabled on a full-duplex Ethernet interface?
No
What protocols or standards define the operation of Fast Ethernet?
IEEE 802.3u and CSMA/CD
What kind of trunk lines can the Cisco 2960 switch support?
802.1q but not ISL
