1) While Waiting for surfaces to dry:
I should have cleane Mask and Glasses set on clean paper towel

With clean hands, I fill my waterbottle:
• First I making sure water switch is turned off while unit is turned ON so I can raise the unit to remove the waterbottle from op chair.
° ON/OFF on the unit to the left side of the op chair.

• Water will be already mixed with chemicals for control of bacteria in water lines and will be set out in a plastic pitcher on either the central counter or on a counter between operatories (this process is done by the lab asst., sterilization asst., or my lab instructor).

• I take the water pitcher to the sink and fill my water bottle.
°The amount that I put in my bottle depends on the procedures I am doing that day.
¤ Unless I am using the ultrasonic scaling unit, you usually don't need more than a 1/3 or 1/2 bottle of water.

After filling the water bottle, I turn the water switch on so I will be ready to flush the lines.
After installing the water bottle and turning on the water switch:
I wash or disinfect my hands and then begin gathering the items I need to set up the operatory for patient treatment:

• The items that do NOT go in the patient's mouth may be obtained with clean hands.

• The items that DO go in the patient's mouth need Nitril, Vinal or Overgloves to be obtained.
2) After setting up water bottle, I would:
* Make sure to disinfect hands or 10 sec handwash first! * Then obtain:
6 Large barriers for:
• Top of Operator Cart
• Patient's Chair ☆MAKE SURER RIGHT ARMREST IS NOT IN THE WAY!!!☆
• My Chair (and assistant's chair, if needed)
• Instrument Tray (Bracket Table)
• Ultrasonic Tray / Swivel Tray
• Auxillary Arm Which Holds the Suction Hose and A/W Syringe.

°Go to operatory and place FIRST barrier across the top of my cart and then place the rest of the barriers on the cart while I put them in place.
3) After placing the 6 barriers, I would:
Sanitizer my hands, put on Nitrile, Vinyl or Overgloves and obtain the following items from the Supply Cart, found by opperatories 3,6,9 or 12:
• 1 Large Barrier for One of My Large Orange Trays (bottom drawer)
° I place the rest of the itms in this bag to transport them to the my op.
• 3 Long Barrier Sleeves for: (3rd drawer from bottom)
¤ A/W Syringe Handle ¤ Saliva Ejector Handle ¤ Hi-Vac Handle
• 2 Sandwich Bags for Light Handles (3rd drawer from bottom)
• 1 Patient Bib (and Strap, if I am missing mine) (3rd drawer from bottom)
• 1 Hot-Dog Bag (opt. dep. on procedure) (3rd drawer from bottom)
• 1 of each Tip: (2nd drawr from top)
¤ Hi-Vac Tip and Screen ¤ Saliva Ejector Tip ¤ A/W Syringe Tip ( ops 4, 6, and 7 use all metal tips kept in glove box holder in each op)
• STICKY TAPE - LAST with Clean Hands - for light switch handle, hand control on patient chair in op 6, and hand-placements on my chair (if saddle seat) (on top of drawer shelf)
4) After returning to op with item, I would use gloves to set up:
• A/W Syringe Tip & Barrier
• Saliva Ejector Tip & Barrier
• Hi-Vac Tip w/ Screen and Barrier
° Flush Water Lines for 30 sec into Hi-Vac after assembly

• Place Barriers on Light Handles
5) After setting up tips with gloves, I can use clean hands to:
Retrieve Items on Large Orange Tray from Cart:
☆ Patient edu mirror, Patient glasses, Stethoscope, BP cuff, 1 Multi-color pen, 1 Yellow highlighter, Vaseline, Floss despenser, Clip board and Scotch tape☆
• Place patient edu mirror & patient glasses ON Bracket Tray
• Place stethoscope & BP Cuff on counter LEFT of Large Orange Tray
• Place pens on counter UNDER View Box
• Tape overgloves to counter RIGHT of Large Orange Tray
• Place clipboard on counter RIGHT of Overgloves
Place Barrier on Large Orange Tray and set up:
• Tube of Vaseline • Glide Floss Dispenser • Plastic Cup w/ Pre-procedural Rinse
Tape the hotdog bag to barrier on cart
Place STICKY Tape on lightswitch, hand-placement areas on my chair (if saddle seat), and hand control on patient chair in op 6
6 After setting out all my supplies I:
Sanitize hands, put on gloves and obtain my sterilized cassette for my procedure
• Place cassette on cart
• Carefully fold back sterile blue wrap. Fold top and bottom edges under neatly.
• Open cassette *Double Down* and check for:
¤ 2 2x2's ¤ 2 cotton tip applicators ¤ 1 Taped double cotton roll.
° If items are not in cassette, obtain from supply cart
•Place cotton pliers on Large Orange Tray
• 2x2's and cotton tip applicaters next to cassette
° Vaseline applied to one cotton tip applicator and folded in 2x2
• Wedge Taped double cotton roll in orange rubber in cassette lid

Unfold patient bib and lay loosely on top of open cassette w/ bib clip on top.
7) After unfolding bib on cassette, I would:
Remove gloves and perform 10 sec hand wash then remove glasses and face mask and place them on paper towel.
I am now ready to get my patient.
I get my patient and assist them into the chair if needed.

SATURATE THE TAPED DOUBLE COTTON ROLLS WITH WATER FROM A/W SYRINGE!

I would then perform schedualed therepy procedures
8) When the therepy procedures are complete:
☆With my face mask, glasses, and gloves still on☆
•Inspect my instruments for debris and clean by inserting tips into cotton rolls if needed
• Carefully place instruments & COTTON PLIARS back in cassette and inspect for:
° instrument tips that might be against mirror head
° instrument tips that might be sticking through cassette
• Place cassette in transport tub
• Remove Gloves and mask, placing mask on paper towel on top of op wall
°Keep on glasses for skills test
• Perform 10 sec handwash and escort patient to front desk area
9) After escorting patient to front desk area:
☆I return to op and put back on PPE but use Overgloves instead☆

• Flush Water Line for 15 sec, if I have used it, remove A/W tip and place in trasport tub

♢During Assessment say: " I'm going to come back to my op and flush the line for 15 sec. If it's the end of the day, I would flush the line, remove my glove, turn OFF water, remove water bottle, take it to the sink, empty the bottle, put it back on, turn back ON the water, put back on overgloves, flush lines again until dry, then remove A/W tip and place it in the transport tub, and then carry on."

• Take transport tub to sterilization by way of back hall
° Place transport tub on left counter, remove gloves and sanitize hands
• Return to op by way of back hall


10) After returning from sanitation room:
☆I put on CLEAN gloves and break down op: ☆
•Place patient glasses and light face on the counter next to the sink to wash later
° If not the end of day, not remove patient light face
•Saturate 6 paper towels with disinfectant
• Remove items from Large Orange Tray, remove barrier, disinfect tray and counter where I will place tray and then wipe down items that go back into my cart:
° Dental Floss Holder & Vasaline
° Stethoscope and BP cuff hozes (if desired)
° Patient edu. mirror
° Clipboard and pens
11) After disinfecting my cart items, I would:
• Turn op chair barrier inside out as garbage back for barriers & disposable items:
° Barriers, paper towels, over gloves, hi-vac & saliva suction tips and other desposable items
• Use saturated paper towels to wipe down used items:
° Counter, patient chair, op chair, patient light handles, auxillary arm, nitrous oxide arm, clock, and cart
• Perform a second wipe-down to disinfect.
♢during assessment say, "I would then peform a second wipe-down"
12) After wiping down my op, I would:
• Take garbage to large garbage cans in starilization area via back hall
• Remove gloves and sanatize or wash hands
• Return to op via back hall
• Retrieve clean glasses from cart and put them on in place of contaminated glasses
• Wash contaminated glasses and set them on paper towel on wall
• Wash light face with soap and water using 4x4 from under sink then dry with clean 4x4.
• Remove gloves, wash hands, remove mask
• Replace patient light face with clean hands
13) After replacing the patient light face, I:
• Put items away in cart after drying
• Lock cart and place under counter
• Make sure water switch is turned OFF
• Raise unit PART WAY then turned OFF
° pedals are aranged in a row left of chair
° op chair is placed back to back with patient chair
° cords are untangled and hanging straight
° chair arms and bracket table are tucked in
° light arm is parallel with floor
•Exit op
