The circulatory System
Consisits of 3 physiological processes.
1. Cardiac cycle
2. Pulmonary circulation
3. Systemic circulation
Cardiac Cycle comprises of 2 processes
Diastole and Systole
Diastole
Relaxation phase when the heart fills with blood from the great veins.
Systole
Contraction phase when the blood is ejected from the heart into the aorta and pulmonary artery.
Pulmonary circulation
Right side pumps blood to the lungs.
Left side recieves oxygenated blood from the lungs.
Systemic circulation
Left side of the heart pumps oxgenated blood to the body via the aorta.

Right side recieives deoxygenated blood from the body via the great veins
What are the functions of the heart?
Generating and maintaing BP
Seperates Pulmonary and systemic circulation
ensures one -way blood flow.
Regulates blood supply by changing HR and SV.
Right atrium produces RA and ANH hormone.
-------- and------- regulate blood volume and balance.
RA and ANH
Size of heart
Size of you closed fist
Shape of heart
Upside down blunt cone
Apex of the heart is ---------- - ---------- in the ---th intercostial space in the -------------- line.
anterior inferior 5th mid- clavicular line
Base of heart is located --------- ----------- within the ---nd intercostal space deep to the ----------
posterior superior 2nd Sternum
Mediastinum
Middle part of the thoratic cavity.
Pericardium
Outside layer of the heart for anchoring and lubrication.
Myocardium
Middle muscular layer of the heart for contraction.
Endocardium
Smooth inner layer of the heart allows directional blood flow.
Inflammation of the three layers of the heart.
Pericarditis
Mycoarditis
Endocarditis
What do Semiluar valves do?
What are they called?Protects back flow in the great vessels.
Protects back flow in the great vessels.
Pulmonary valve
Aortic valve
What are atrioventricular valves?
Waht do they do?
Tricupid or RAV valve
Bicuspid or LAV

Prents backflow within the heart.
Sinoatrial Node
Located in RA
Initiates heartbeat or wave of contraction.
Regulated by the ANS
ANS
Autonomic Nervous System
What is the followind system?

Sinoatrial node
Artial muscle fibres
Atrioventicular Node
Bundle of HIS or atrioventricular (AV) bundle
Purkinje fibres
Verntricular muscle fibers
Impulse generating sysem of the heart.
HR
Heart Rate
SV
Stroke Volume
CO
Cardiac Output
Name the three parts of the cardiac cycle and the time.
1. Atrial systole 0.1 sec
2.Ventricular systole 0.3 sec
3. Complete cardiac diastole 0.4 sec
