how do you determine whether QRS is widened or not?
- QRS cannot be any bigger than 3 small squares

- greater than 120ms
what happens to QRS in BBB?
- widened QRS (>3 squares)

- aka greater than 120ms
what is EKG evidence of an old MI?
- pathological Q waves
what is a 1st degree AV block?
- NOT A BLOCK!

- delay in conduction represented by PR interval >200ms (5 small squares)

- usually at level of AV node
what is a Mobitz I 2nd degree AV block?
- short P wave --> longer P wave --> fails to conduct
what is a Mobitz II 2nd degree AV block?
- P wave is one time, widened QRS

- can progress suddenly to AV block unlike Mobitz I
why is Mobitz II worse than Mobitz I?
- Mobitz II block is too low so ventricles cannot provide autorhythmicity
what is a 3rd degree AV block?
- complete AV block

- no relationship b/w p waves & QRS

- no conduction from atria to ventricles, narrow QRS, block occurred at level of AV node

- below AV node no reliable escape
what is the QRS pattern of a bundle branch block?
- QRS wide
how do you tell the difference between a supraventricular & ventricular arrythmia?
- supraventricular - if p wave precedes premature beat

- ventricular - QRS wide w/ no p wave
what are 3 supraventricular tachyarrhythmias?
1) a fib

2) a flutter

3) paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia
what is atrial flutter?
- Regular ventricular rhythm

- “Saw tooth” patterned atrial activity

- No electrical baseline
what is atrial fibrillation?
- Irregularly irregular rhythm

- Irregular baseline with variable amplitude & morphology
what is paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia?
- Regular tachycardia

- Sudden onset/offset

- P waves hidden in QRS
what are 3 ventricular tachyarrhythmias?
1) monomorphic ventricular tachycardia

2) polymorphic ventricular tachycardia

3) ventricular fibrillation
