RS - Definition
Process of collecting data about objects or landscape features without coming into direct physical contact w/ them. Performed from orbital or sub-orbital platforms using instruments which measure emr reflected or emitted from terrain.
1st Order Elements
Tone: variation from white to black

Color: multitude of combinations of hue, value, and chroma

Resolution: ability of entire photo system to render sharply defined image (factors: lens, exposure, processing, etc.)
2nd Order Elements
Size: When other features blurred, size important in discrimination of objects

Shape: also provides diagnostic clues to aid ID

Texture - frequency of change and arrangement of tones (impression of smoothness or roughness of an area)

Pattern: spatial arrangement of objects
3rd Order Elements
Site:

Association: I of one object indicates existence of another

Height

Shadow: Shadow patterns can help ID objects
Point Scale
The scale at a point with a specific elevation on the ground

Photo take over rugged terrain will display varying range of scales associated w/ variations in elevation
Stereoscopy
Science/Art that deals w/ use of binocular vision for observation of overlapping photographs

'normal' eyesight = stereoscopic vision

Ability to see depth
Spatial Resolution
Measurement of minimum distance between two objects that will allow them to be differentiated from one another in an image
Spectral resolution
