Anthrax Vaccine Adsorbed (AVA)
Selected personnel will be immunized. AVA being administered according to DOD AVIP. Primary series consists of a total of 6 subcutaneous dosses of 0.5 ml each. Japanese Encephalitis
Significant threat to exposed personnel in the Far East and Indian subcontinent, particularly in Southeast Asia and rural Okinawa. At risk primarily at night during field operations in rural areas. Personnel should receive all three initial doses prior to departure. Most people traveling to major urban centers for 30 days or less do not need vaccine.
Japanese Encephalitis - Dose
Three doses of 1.0 ml each, administered subcutaneously on days 0, 7, and 30. Personnel should be observed for 30 minutes because of possible llergic reaction. Accelerated 0, 7,14 for travelers 30 days or less. Allergic reaction can happen within 10 days, therefore last dose should be administered at least 10 days prior to departing. Booster 3 or more years
MMR
All active duty personnel and DOD health care providers, given one dose 0.5 ml SC. Pregnant women should not receive this live vaccine. All women advised to avoid pregnancy for at least 4 weeks after immunization.
MMR
It may decrease the response to a tuberculosis skin test(TST), causing a false negative response. MMR can be given the same day as a TST. If MMR given and one or more days have elapsed, wait 4 to 6 weeks before giving a routine TST. If varicella vaccine is to be administered and not given the same day, separate by 4 to 6 weeks. After reconstitution, vaccine stored in a dark place 2-8C and discard within 8 hours.
Meningococcal Vaccine
Al enlisted and officer accessions nd individuals traveling or deploying to outbreak areas or the sub-Saharan Africa's "meningitis belt", immunocompromised adults.
Meningococcal Vaccine - Dose
One dose 0.5 ml SC. Booster 0.5 ml SC administered 5 years. Saudi Arabia requires a booster for persons entering during Hajj if not received dose in last 3 years
Pneumococcal Vaccine Polyvalent
Administered to all adults 65 years of age and older. Not administered to pregnant women. Dose: Pnemovax 23 and Pnu-Immune 23 given as a single 0.5 ml dose IM or SC. Booster provided 5 years.
Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine
All children 23 months of age or younger.
Rabies Vaccine
Should be administered simultaneously with human rabies immune globulin (HRIG)
Tetanus-diphtheria
Dose: Give 0.5 ml IM Recive a booster dose once every ten years. If an individual sustains a wound considered tetnus-prone, a booster dose of Td administered if more than 5 years.
Thyphoid Vaccine
Military personnel of orders to a deployable unit or a unit outside the US. Dose: One casule by mouth with a cool beverage, an hour or more before a meal on days 1, 3, 5, and 7. 1, 3, 5, and 8 acceptable. Should be repeated every 5 years. Should not be given to immunocompromised adults. Vaccine of 0.5 ml administered IM every 2 years.
Varicella Virus Vaccine
Suseptible Navy and Marine Corps recruits and officer accessions immunized with the two-dose vaccine series. Women of childbearing age should be immunized, it may reduce their risk of transmitting varicella to their fetuses. Women should avoid pregnancy for three months following each dose of vaccine.
Varicella Virus Vaccine - Dose
Single dose of 0.5 ml SC required for children 12 and 13 years of age. Persons 13 years of age and older must receive two dose series. 0.5 ml dose SC followed by a second 0.5 ml dose SC given 4 to 8 weeks after the first dose. Avoid salicylate use for 6 weeks. Stored frozen -15C. Reconstitution to RT must be done within 30 minutes. Space Varicella and MMR 4 weeks apart if not administered same day
Yellow Fever
All active duty personnel. Subcutaneous dose of 0.5 ml of this virus vaccine required for all ages. Booster required every 10 years. Store 0-5C must be used within one hour of reconstitution
Temperature Checks
Check and record refrigerator and freezer temps twice daily, 7 days a week.
