Free Flow, Grid, Loop, Spine
Free Flow
type of store layout in which fixtures and merchandise are grouped into free flowing patterns on the sales floor. Ex: Disney Store, Black house white market.
Grid
type of store in which counters and fixtures are placed in long rows or “runs” usually at right angles, throughout the store. Ex: grocery store, home depot.
Loop
a major customer isle beings at the entrance and loops through the store, usually in the shape of a circle, square, or rectangle and then returns the customer to the front of the store. Ex: Like a racetrack, Macy’s.
Spine
a single main isle with sections up and down the MAIN line throughout the store
Visual Merchandise-
artistic display of merchandise and theatrical props used as scene-setting decoration in the store. Ex: Lead them to temptation, JC Penny cosmetics always displayed in front of store, displayed well with creative artistic displays.
**Escalators coming and going, escalators are focal point of many stores. Makes them ideal locations for promotional signs.
Visual Communications
Name, Logo, Retail Identity, in store signage. Planning the store environment to incorporate signs and other visual devices that serve as silent salespersons, providing shoppers with much-needed information and direction on how to shop the store.
