Health Care - General Health Care · Prior to the beginning the assignment, each student should make a copy of the ‘Role Play Feedback Checklist Self Assessment (Student) and 2-3 copies of the ‘Role Play Feedback Checklist for Guest Reviewer’ which can be found in the course rEsource materials. Review these checklists prior to the start of the role-plays. o Select the scenarios you will role-play from the following list: o You are a human service supervisor interviewing a candidate for an entry-level position in your agency that serves children and families. The interview should examine the potential staff person’s background, interest, and skills relevant to the position, as well as their long term professional goals. o You are the staff person’s immediate supervisor. Other staffs have expressed concerns to you that this staff person is ‘burned out’, has been referring to clients in negative and disparaging ways, and that his/her normally cheerful and professional demeanor has changed. o A long-time and valued staff member of your organization has requested a meeting to discuss that he/she is considering leaving the organization and retiring. You want to reinforce to his/her value to the organization, help him/her consider the issues and options while being supportive of the situation and respectful of the final decision. o Each team member should find two adult volunteers to serve as the staff person and the observer/reviewer. Spend some time reviewing the assignment with them and one of the scenarios you have chosen for them to role-play with you. Discuss some possible responses the staff person might have based on their situation. Discuss how you will be playing the human service supervisor/interviewer role and some of the types of questions you will be asking and the responses and the techniques you are hoping to practice. o Fill out the Role-Play Feedback Checklist—Self-assessment and have your volunteer observer/reviewer complete the Guest Reviewer Checklist found on your Resource page. o Ask your Guest Reviewer to be very specific, in behaviors, and inform him or her that the feedback will not affect your grade, and that honest feedback with specifics will help you work on interviewing skills. o Although this is a role-play, team members should try to be original in their questions and responses. Have fun practicing, but take it seriously so you can get as good a feeling as you can for what it might be like to conduct an interview, and what it is like to share personal information as a participant. Please keep the role-play fictitious. Do NOT share actual experiences, problems, or personal information. · After each Learning Team member has had at chance to complete their role-plays, post copies of their checklists into the team forum. Then, have a discussion related to the following questions: o Where there any patterns of responses noted by the human service supervisor on their self-assessments? o Where there any patterns of responses noted by the guest-reviewers on their assessments? o What were some of the difficult parts of the role-plays for the interviewer/human service supervisor? o How did it feel to play the human service staff member and what did the interviewer/human service supervisor do or not do to help the interview process? o From the observations you have made, what steps you will take to improve your interviewing skills? o What general or specific things did the Learning Team learn during this exercise? o Write up a summary the Learning Team discussion of the questions above in a 1200-1500 word paper. Submit this written paper along with all the Self- Assessment and Guest Reviewer Checklists to the Assignment Section. Please note no references are required for this paper.
