Plasma membrane
The biomembrane that separates the internal contents of a cell from its external environment. 5-10 nm thick, and semifluid.
Membrane transport
One of the primary function of the plasma membrane, regulate the traffic of substances into and out of the cell and its organelles.
Phospholipid bilayer
Two layers of lipids, with the hydrophobic region, the fatty acid tails, facing inward, and the hydrophilic region, the head groups, on the surface of the membrane.
