Beowulf, an Epic poem, was written down around 1000, but is unknown in actual origin. It concerns the lives of Scandinavian people and events.
Most of the works are "predominantly religious" content, "biblical narratives and saints' lives retold in Old English verse and homilies or sermons in Old English prose.
