ESTABLISHED
A kill box that is in effect, either planned via the joint targeting cycle or immediate during execution

Used to further describe a portion or portions of a kill box that are open to fires without further coordination or deconfliction
ACTIVE
An established kill box that has aircraft flying in the space defined by the kill box or effects of air or other joint fires within the boundaries of the kill box
COLD
An established kill box that is not active; all portions of the kill box are open to fires unless identified as closed
CLOSED
Used to describe a portion or portions of an established kill box in which fires or effects of fires are not allowed without further coordination
CANCELLED
The kill box is no longer in effect
SCAR (Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance)
A mission flown for the purpose of detecting targets and coordinating or performing attack or reconnaissance on those targets; SCAR missions are flown in a specific geographic area and are an element of the C2 interface to coordinate multiple flights, detect and attack targets, neutralize enemy air defenses, and provide battle damage assessment
ALO (Air Liaison Officer)
An AF officer which is aligned to a U.S. Army combat maneuver unit, supporting either conventional or special operations. The ALO mission is to advise ground commanders on the appropriate use of air, space and cyber power; establish and maintain command and control of air support missions; and act as an inter-service liaison
FAC(A) -- Forward Air Controller Airborne
A specifically trained and qualified aviation officer who exercises control from the air of aircraft engaged in close air support of ground troops. Normally an airborne extension of the tactical air control party. Provides coordination and terminal attack control for CAS missions as well as locating and marking ground targets
Forward Edge of the Battle Area
The foremost limits of a series of areas in which ground combat units are deployed, exclusing the areas in which the covering or screening forces are operating, designated to coordinate fire support, the positioning of forces, or the maneuver of units
FLOT -- Forward Line of Own Troops
A line which indicates the most forward positions of friendly forces in any kind of military operation at a specific time. Normally identifies the forward location of covering and screening forces
FSCL -- Fire Support Coordination Line
A permissive fire control measure that may be established by a corps within its area of operation to support its concept of the operation. The purpose is to allow the corps and its subordinate and supporting units to expeditiously attack targets of opportunity beyond the line
Joint Terminal Attack Controller
A qualified military service member who, from a forward position, directs the action of combat aircraft engaged in close air support and other offensive air operations
TACP -- Tactical Air Control Party
A subordinate operational component of a tactical air control system designed to provide air liaison to land forces and for the control of aircraft
