ACE inhibitor effect on bradykinin
Inhibits degradation of bradykinin, increasing its activity
Bradykinin effect
algesic agent, vasodilator, "wheal and flare" due to increased vascular permeability, not antagonized by antihistamines, indirectly increases cardiac output and heart rate, promotes prostaglandin release by kidneys, associated with acute inflammation, shock, anaphylaxis
Bradykinin structure
Nona-peptide (nine amino acids). Converted from high molecular weight kininogen by a plasma enzyme, kallikrein.
One of the other kinins
Lysylbradykinin. Enzyme that forms it is kallidin.
Renin-Angiotensin System
Renin converts angiotensinogen to angiotensin 1. ACE converts angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2, along with angiotensin 3 it works at ATII receptors.
Enzyme that metabolizes bradykinin
Peptidyl dipeptidase (Angiotensin-converting enzyme or ACE)
Kallikrein
Plasma enzyme that converts high molecular weight kininogen to bradykinin.
Aprepitant
Emend- non-peptide antagonist at the NK1. Used for nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy.
