O I O

S O

Pillar

Extension to the U-shaped base to which the arm of the microscope is joined.

Inclination joint

Between the base and the body which allows tilting of the microscope when necessary.

Movable mirror

Located under the diaphragm and attached to the pillar which reflects light.

Ocular or eyepiece

On top of the draw tube which is where the specimen is viewed under the microscope

Objective lenses

Attached to the revolving nosepiece which are the primary optical lenses and are the ones closest to the specimen

Coconut

Cocos nucifera L.

Stem of blah blah.

Pilea cadieri

What are the two knobs located on the arm of the microscope?

Coarse adjustment

Fine adjustment

Fine adjustment

Tunes the focus and increases the details of the viewed specimen.

Stage

Attached to the base of the arm where the slide or specimen is placed.

Stage clips

Metal clips on the stage that hold the slide in place.

Condenser

Beneath the stage which concentrates light from the mirror into the specimen.

Iris diaphragm

Below the condenser that has a small movable lever which can be adjusted to regulate the amount of light

Body tube

Houses the optical parts in the upper part of the microscope and connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses

Draw tube

Holds the eyepiece in place

Arm

Connects to the base and holds the body tube and is also used to carry the microscope.

Aperture

The small opening at the stage which allows light from the mirror to reach the specimen

Base or metal stand

Supports the microscope and where the mirror is located.
