What are drug combos for ALL? Hodgkins?
ALL:
Prednisone + Vincristine
POMP - Prednisone, Oncovin (vincristine), Methotrexate, Purimethol

Hodgkins:
MOPP - Mechlorethamine, oncovin, prednisone, procarbazine
ABVD - adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine, dacarbazine (most commonly used)
What are the specific side effects for cyclophosphamide? Bleomycin? Cisplatin? L-asparaginase?
cyclo - hemorrhagic cystitis can progress to bladder fibrosis

cisplatin - peripheral neuropathy

bleomycin - pulmonary fibrosis

L-asp - hypersensitivities
What is a DOC for ALL?
6-MP - interferes with nucleic acid - severe bone marrow suppression
What is Cisplatin used for?
testicular and bladder cancer.

SE - damage to nervous system and kidneys. strongly emetic
What is Tamoxifen used for?
it inhibits estrogen receptors in breast tissue. Used in treatment of breast cancer and prophylactically in women who are at high risk for breast cancer.
What does NSAIDs do to alleviate pain?
inhibits the production of PGE2.
How does aspirin work?
acetylates cyclooxygenase irreversibly - permanent inhibition of cyclooxygenase.

minimizes inflammation

Also decreases fever since it works in hypothalamus

Reduces coagulation tendency - thromboxane not formed
How does acetaminophen work?
inhibits cyclooxygenase

no peripheral anti-inflammatory action. Limited to mostly CNS - reducing fever and pain perception.

DOC for children with viral infections but without the risk aof inducing Reyes syndrome like aspirin.
