What is endochondrial vs intramembranous growth for bones?
Endochondrial: cartilage model
Intramembranous: flat bones, skull for example

What is the pathway that triggers bone remodeling?
Osteocyte initiates via signal to other osteocytes that eventually reaches progenitor cell and osteoblasts.
Osteoblasts trigger cascade via signaling molecules and osteoclasts remove bone.
What are the 4 layers of hyaline articular cartilage?
1. superficial tangential zone: smooth surface (parallel collagen fibers, more water)
2. Middle/transitional zone: collagen more irregular and thicker.
3. Deep zone: strong--collagen perpendicular, more proteoglycans
4. Calcified: next to bone

Since articluar cartilage is avascular, how do nurients enter the tangential zone?
pressure changes in the tangential zone--at rest it is low pressure and full of water. With movement, waste is removed with fluid as the pressure increases. As the pressure decreases, new fluid with nurtients and oxygen is drawn in.
What is not present in synovial fluid that normally forms clots?
Fibrenogen
-Impt b/c no clots can form in synovial fluid and no healing can occur
What tissue connects 2 or more bones?
Ligament--more elastic in nature (less organized dense CT)
What tissue connects muscle to muscle, bone or cartilage?
Tendon--less elastic in nature (highly organized dense CT)

Where tendon or ligament inserts into bone
What is direct enthesis?
Dense Ct of ligamnet continuous with fibrocartilage that is continuous with bone
Indirect enthesis?
Dense CT of ligament continuous with bone

1. Inflamation (need clot formation and inflam cells) day 0-10
2. proliferative (increase cell density, new collagen) day 10-21
3. Remodeling (align new matrix) day 21-52 weeks
