Name the 4 types of bonds?

1) Covalent Bonds 2) Ionic Bonds 3) Hydrogen Bonds 4) Van Der Waals Interactions

What are Covalent Bonds?

Sharing of a pair of valence electrons by two atoms

What is a single covalent bond?

Sharing of one pair of valence electrons

(And has free rotation)

What is a double covalent bond?

Sharing of two pairs of valence electrons.

(And has a flat surface (plainer))

What is an Ionic Bond?

Attraction between a cation and an anion.

Define Cation

Positively charged ion

Define Anion

Negatively charged ion.

What are compounds formed by ionic bonds called?

Salts.

What bonds are stronger covalent or ionic?

Covalent.

Ionic bonds and hydrogen bonds are weak chemical bonds but are very important.

What are Hydrogen Bonds?

It forms when a hydrogen atom covalently bonded to one electronegative atom is also attracted to another electronegative atom.

Describe Van Der Waals Interactions?

Attractions between molecules that are close together. Minimize surface area spent interacting with polar bonds (Van Der Waals are non-polar)

What is a Dipole?

Partial + and partial - charge

Polar Covalent Bonds?

PONS with Hydrogen

Anything with PONS is polar or non-polar?

Polar.
