What is the function of the circulatory system?
The function of the circulatory system is to pump blood throughout the body.
Where does the oxygen from the blood go?
The blood carries oxygen to the muscles and other tissues
Where does the de-oxygenated blood go to?
The de-oxygenated blood is sent from the heart to the lungs to gets pumped out and refreshed with oxygen.
What other task does the circulatory system do that is similar to what the excretory system does?
The blood moves wastes away from tissues and out of the body.
Can the circulatory system do anything that affects body heat?
Yes, it helps regulate body temperature.
What is the most important organ in the ciruclatory system?
The heart
How many sides does the heart have and what is in the heart?
The heart has 2 sides (left and right). The heart is composed of tissues that make up the chambers; the left ventricle, the right ventricle, the left atrium and the right atrium.
What important tissues are in the circulatory system?
- arteries: elastic vessels that carry the blood away from the heart
- veins: thin walled vessels with valves that carry the blood to the heart
- capillaries: site of air/oxygen exchange
Where does the right side of the heart pump blood to?
The right side of the heart pumps blood to the lungs.
Where does the left side of the heart pump blood to?
The left side of the heart pumps blood to the body.
How many pathways are there in the circulatory system?
2
Describe the circulation of the blood in the circulatory system.
BLOOD with OXYGEN-->pumped to the AORTA-->into the ARTERIES-->into the CAPILLARIES (oxygenated blood becomes de-oxygenated)-->DE-OXYGENATED BLOOD goes into VEINS-->VENA CAVA-->de-oxygenated blood goes into the HEART-->through pulmonary artery into LUNGS and becomes OXYGENATED-->into PULMONARY ARTERY-->oxygenated blood into the HEART-->-->-->pumped throughout the body and starts all over again.
What is the function of the excretory/urinary system?
To filter the blood and remove wastes (dispose of waste eg. urine, sweat, carbon)
Also cleans out the liver, lungs, skin, intestines and lymph nodes
What are the important organs in the urinary system?
1. The kidneys
2. The bladder
What other important tissues are there in the urinary system?
The ureters and the urethra.
Give 3 important points about the urinary system.
1. Kidneys can be transplanted
2. Men have longer urethras
3. Drink lots of water and go to the bathroom often
