Superior

Term refering to structure being closer to the head or HIGHER then another structure of the body

EX. Shoulders are SUPERIOR to the knee

Anterior

Term refering to a structure being more in FRONT than another structure in the body

EX. Breastbone is ANTERIOR to the spine

Posterior

Term refer to a structure being more in the back than another structure in the body

EX. The spine is POSTERIOR to the breastbone

Medial

Term refers to a structure that is closer to the midline plane of the body

Lateral

Term refers to a structure that is father away from the midline

Proximal

Referencing limbs only! Term used for structure being closer to the point of origin (torso)

EX. The knee is PROXIMAL to the ankle
