Black death

Was an epidemic outbreak of bubonic plague. It killed between 1/3 and 2/3 of Europe's population in less than 5 years. It traveled from China to Europe to North Africa through various trading routes.

Provisions of Oxford

A plain to reform accepted by Henry III. In return, his barons promised financial aid. This could be regarded as England's first written constitution.

Thomas Aquinas

Saint Thomas Aquinas was a Catholic priest in the Dominican order and one of the most important medieval philosophers and theologians. He wrote many works of philosophy and theology throughout his life but his most influential work is summa theologica. Summa theologica consists of 3 parts: God, ethics and summa.

English common law

English Law was the accumulation of legal customs and traditions. This became known as "the common law" because it became common throughout England. The mechanism that produced the common law was the rule of stare decisis, which informally requires judges to follow past decisions on the same questions of law and fact. The men who became knowledgeable in the common law and represented individuals with legal problems in English courts became known as lawyers.

Pax Mongolica

The period from 13th-14th centuries, when most of Eurasia was under Mongol rule, the pax mongolica, Latin for Mongol Peace. When genghis khan began conquering Asia, he started unifying the smaller kingdoms under a single empire. The empire had the simplest of rules, no fighting within the empire. The cities no longer went to war with each other and had an open trade policy.

Joan of arc

French military leader in the 15th century. At the age of seventeen she became a national heroine by taking up arms to establish the rightful king to the French throne. She claimed to have heard God speak to her in voices. She was later tried for heresy and burned at the stake.

Helivennttic

The theory that the earth revolved around the sun
