What is localization of function in the brain? |
Different parts of brain involved in different types of behavior and processing |
Where is the motor cortex located and its purpose? |
Back of the frontal lobe in both hemispheres and is responsible for voluntary movements eg walking on the opposite side of the body |
Go into more depth about the motor cortex? |
The motor cortex is split into parts that control specific body parts and are located in relation to the body part |
What does the somatosensory center do? |
Detecting and processing sensory inputs from part of the body and producing the corresponding sensation eg pain |
Where is it located? |
Behind the motor cortex in the parietal lobe |
Extension on it? |
The amount of the somatosensory dedicated to a particular area of the body indicates the sensitivity of that area eg hands and face occupys over half of this cortex |
How many somatosensory centers are there? |
1 on each hemisphere dealing with the opposite side of the body |
Where is the visual center located? |
Back of the brain in the occipital lobe |
How many of these are there? |
1 on each hemisphere dealing with the vision on opposite side |
Explain the visual cortex in more depth? |
Different parts of it deal with different types of visual info e.g color, shape, movement |
Where is the auditory center located? |
Lies largely in the temporal lobes in both hemispheres of the brain |
What does it do? |
Deals with detection and processing of sounds |
Explain the linkage of it? |
Info mostly goes from the ear on one side to the auditory center opposite but can be sent to the opposite side as well |
Where is the language center located? |
In the left hemisphere in most people |
What are the two main areas? |
Broca's area and Wernicke's area |
What is Broca's area? |
Small area in frontal lobe of left hemi, responsible for production of speech |
What is Wernicke's area? |
Left hemi close to the auditory cortex, involved in understanding language |
