spores
bryophytes, pterophytes
seeds
gymnosperm, angiosperm
w/o vascular system
bryophyte
non flowering and vascular
pterophyte, gymnosperm
with protected seeds
angiosperm
monocots
flowers in multiles of three, parallel veination, scattered vascular bundles, fibrous root
dicots
flowers in multiples of four or five, netted veination, vascular bundles on edge of stem, tap root
petiole
attatches leaf to stem
root hairs
absorb water
stoma
Openings that allow water
and gases into and out of cell
anther
produce and distribute pollen
stigma
sticky top of pistil, receives pollen
filament
supports anther
sepal
encloses bud before blooming
meristem
growth tissue
photosynthesis equation
6CO2 +6 H2O + light = C6 H12 O6 +6O2
Rubisco
enzyme in calvin cycle. binds co2 to RuBP
Auxins
produced by apical meristem. stimulates cell elongation. causes phototropism, gravitropism, thigmotropism
cytokins
stimulate cell division, growth of lateral buds. causes dormant seeds to sprout
giberellins
produce increase in stem length and fruit size
ethylene
causes fruits to ripe, causes abcission
photoperiodism
a plants response to changes in length of day. (detects seasons)
abcission
falling of leaves...etc
gravitropism
plants response to gravity
phototropism
tendency of plants to grow towards sunlight
phytochrome
changes timing for season activities
thigmotropism
plants response to touch
Light Dependent reaction
light into thylakoid membrane. makes hydrogen, oxygen, ATP, and NADPH
Calvin Cycle
6CO2 become 6 unstable intermediates of 36 carbons. 12 ATP and 12 NADPH from light dependent reaction are used to make the intermediates into 12 PGAL. 2 of the PGAL go on to become Glucose. the 10 others use 12 ADP and 12 NADP to become 6 RuBP which continue in the cycle
