What are the six nutrience needed for a balanced diet?

Carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and fibre.

why are carbohydrates needed?

Carbohydrates are needed to give the body energy.

why are proteins needed?

Proteins are needed to help the body grow and repair itself.

why are fats needed?

Fats are needed to give the body energy and keep the body warm.

why are vitamins needed?

Vitamins are needed in small amounts to keep the body healthy.

why are minerals needed?

Minerals are needed in small amounts to keep the body healthy.

why is fibre needed?

Fibre is needed to keep food moving through the digestive system.

What is a balanced meal?

A balanced meal is a meal that contains some of all the six nutrience needed.

What are the causes of obesity?

Obesity happens when you eat too much of one of the six nutrient. It is because of over eating and not exercising.

What are the causes of starvation?

Starvation is caused because you dont consume as much as the energy you are using?

What are the causes of deficiency diseases?

Deficiency diseases are caused because you dont eat enough of certain nutrients.

E.g Anaemia= Iron, scurvy= vitamin C, beriberi= vitamin B, rickets and pellagria=vitamin D, Night blindness= vitamin A , goitre= iodine and kwashiorkor= protein.

What organs make up the digestive system?

Small intestine, liver, gall bladder, stomach, salivary glands, pancreas, rectom, mouth, oesophagus, anus and large intestine.

How does food go through the digestive system?

Your food starts in your mouth, it then travels down your oesophagus into your stomach. It then gets broken down by enzimes andcarrys on its journey into the small intestine. The nutrients needed for the body gets absorbed through the walls of the small intestine into the blood vessels. The stuff left over goes into the large intestine and leaves the body through the rectom.

What is the importance of bacteria in the digestive system?

Bacteria are important in the digestive system because they help break down the food.

What is the function of the human skeletal system?

The skeletal system is needed for protection, support, movement and hematepoesis.

What is the interaction between the skeleton and muscles?

The bones are not able to mave without muscles, when muscles contract the bones can move. The muscles also need to be connected to the bones to make the bones move.

How do muscles work antagonistically?

Muscles work antagonistically because muscles can only contract one way. This means we need a muscle so we can bend and straighten our limbs.

Recall a simple model of chromosomes, genes and DNA.

DNA is the information about your hair colour, skin colour and other characteristics. These are found in the nucleus of all the cells in your body. Chromosomes are a wrapped up piece of DNA molecule. Genes are the information passed down from our parents, they are a part of DNA.

How does genetic information get passed down generations?

Genetic information gets passed down generations because you get 23 chromosomes form your mother and father.

What are some differences between species?

Some differences are that different species have different skeletons. E.g Frogs do not have ribs and birds have a breast bone.

What role did Watson, Crick, Wilkins and Fanklin had in developing a DNA model?

Most of the results about the structure of DNA came from Wilkins.

Watson and Crick used data from Franklin to build a successful model of DNA.

Franklin was an expert of x-ray difraction so she was able to see the structure of DNA.

How do changes in the environment cause extinction?

Environment changes causes extinction because some animals wont be adapted, this means they wont be able to find food or survive new temperatures.

Why is biodiversity important?

Biodiversity is important becuase having more than 1 type of something would mean that they would be more resistant to diseases. This would work because it means they wouldnt all be vunerable to the same thing.

Why is plant reproduction, through insect pollination, important in human food security?

Insect pollination is important in human food security because most of our crops are pollinated by insects, therefore if insects didnt pollinate our crops we wouldnt have any.

Why is protection important in the skeletal system?

Protection is important because it keeps our vital organs safe.

Why is movement important in the skeletal system?

Movement because our skeleton cannot move on its own, skelel muscles contract to make the body move.

Why is support important in the skeletal system?

Support is important because the bones in our legs, pelvic girdle and vertabrea support the weight of our upright body.

Why is hematepoiesis important in the skeletal system?

Hematepoiesis means to make blood. Hematepoiesis is important because it happens in the bone marrow. Bown marrow is important because it has imature cells that could become white blood cells to fight infections or red blood cells to carry oxygen around the body.

Why are gene banks important?

Gene banks are important because they store other varieties of one thing. This is important in case of an outbreak of a disease that could kill most of a certain variety of a specific species.

What is the difference between pollination and fertilisation?

Pollination is when pollination from one plant is moved. Fertilisation is when the pollen makes a tube through the style into the ovaries.
