What happens in fructose intolerance?
No fructose 1 phosphate aldolase. Leads to a buildup of fructose 1 phosphate and a drainage on ATP. Cells become damaged due to inadequate ATP.
What happens in fructosuria?
Lack of fructokinase. No deleterious effects.
What happens in galactosemia?
galactose 1 phosphate uridyltransferase absent. Therefore get an accumulation of galactose which then goes down an alternate pathway to form galactitol. This causes vomiting and diarrhea, jaundiace, hypertrophic liver.
What tissues have sorbitol dehydrogenase and which ones do not?
liver, sperm, ovaries, seminal vesicles do.

eyes, kidneys, lens, nerve cells do not. Therefore get edema in these cells.
