Ovarian follicles

Ovulation

Increase in FSH --> development of follicle which secretes estrogen --> increase in estrogen --> increase in LH. LH causes follicle to rupture, releasing ovum oocyte into abdominal cavity --> fallopian tube --> uterus

Estrogen

Female sex characteristics. Secreted by ovarian follicles and corpus luteum during luteal phase. Responsible for thick wall of endometrium (inner lining of uterus)

Secreted by corpus luteum during luteal phase. Stimulates development and maintenance of endometrium in preparation for implantation

Gastrulation

Blastula's cells begin to fold inward.

Form 3 germ layers, archenteron, blastopore.

Archenteron

Center cavity surrounded by endoderm cells. Eventually gives rise to the gut.

Opening into archenteron that becomes the mouth in protostomes and anus in deuterostomes.
