Contains cerebral cortex - memory and creative thought

Diencephalon

Contains thalamus and hypothalamus - controls hunger thirst sex drive water balance blood pressure temp regulation

Mesencephalon

Midbrain - visual and auditory impulse

Rhombencephalon

Hindbrain consists of cerebellum pons and medulla

Cerebullum - maintenance of balance hand eye coordination and timing of rapid movements

Pons - allows cortex to communicate with cerebellum

Medulla oblongata - controls breathing, heart rate, gastrointestinal activity

CNS cells

Astrocyte. Oligodendrocyte. Microglia. Ependymal cells.

Spinal chord

Sensory and motory information. Reflex.

Outer white matter - motor and sensory axons.

Inner gray matter - nerve cell bodies.

Peripheral Nervous System

Somatic (voluntary) and autonomic (involuntary)

Sympathetic nervous system

ANS. PNS.

flight or fight response. Increases blood pressure and heart rate. Decreases gut motility.

Norepinephrine.

Parasympathetic nervous system

ANS. PNS. Conserve and restore energy.

lowers heart rate. Increases gut motility.

Acetylcholine.
