Matthew

a tax collector, his gospel was well organized, was written to the jews, and referenced the OT 65 times

Mark

belonged to a wealthy family in Jerusalem, connected to the apostles because his mother, Mary, provided the room for the Last Supper, his writing style is concise and factual, moved quickly from event to event, and took into account that not everyone was familiar with the Jewish culture

Luke

a gentile physician, written to a person, and written very formally, most literary gospel, included songs and poems

Sanhedrin

A group of 60-70 Jewish elders given authority in religious matter. Some other leaders would give the Sanhedrin additional power too. The Sanhedrin is made up of Sadducees and Pharisees.

Scribes

In the Sanhedrin, there were scribes. They studied and taught the law. They also interpreted the law for other Jewish scholars. There was a scribe in both the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Pharisees

Wanted to separate themselves from worldly practices. They were incredibly strict and followed all added laws. They were very popular and served as leaders of Synagogues.

Sadducees

Were responsible for Jewish relations with the Romans, and were very influential in Rome. The Sadducees were priests and they only went by the original Torah, and no added laws.

Essenes

Lived apart from Society, wanted to establish a new covenant with God/Jesus

Zealots

Wanted to break free from Rome, and later revolted against Rome. Came from Galilee.
