N4916B, C152 ready for departure RY33 K. WIG1045, BE99 departs full length. How long is the wake turbulence delay?
None. Both aircraft are Small less than 12,500lbs
WIG1045, BE99 ready for departure RY33 K. N597MM, BE20 departs full length. Is there a delay? How long is the wake turbulence delay?
Three minutes waiverable. BE20 is S+.
N80471, C172, ready to depart full length. ME86, H/K35R is just starting take off roll. How long is the wake turbulence delay?
5 miles radar separation. Ensure that the appropriate radar separation exists at or prior to the time an aircraft becomes airborne when taking off behind a heavy jet/B757. 7110.65 3-9-6 and 5-5-4.
Define SRS
Same Runway Separation
N8229J, AEST, is departing behind NOA44, B757, full length. When can N8229J be taxied to LUAW?
As soon as practical. Only if heavy jets are involved , are LUAW rules affected. The intent of LUAW is to position aircraft for an imminent departure. 7110.65 3-9-4
N619JE, SR22, ready to depart full length. ME86, H/K35R, has just started his take off roll. When can N619JE LUAW?
Do not issue clearances to a small aircraft to line
up and wait on the same runway behind a departing
heavy jet aircraft to apply the necessary intervals. 7110.65 3-9-6d
AWI3779, CRJ2, is in postion, RY33. WOA66, H/DC10, has just rotated at the 3,000 RDR (8,000 ft from start of T/O roll) sign. Can AWI3779 be cleared for takeoff?
No. SRS (Same Runway Seperation) standards do not apply.
CHQ6790, CRJ2, is in postion, RY33. WOA66, H/DC10, has just rotated at the 3,000 RDR sign (approx 8,000 down the runway). When can CHQ6790 be cleared for takeoff?
By ensuring that the appropriate radar separation exists at or prior to the time an aircraft becomes airborne when taking off behind a heavy jet/B757. 7110.65 3-9-6
In this case 5 Miles Large behind Heavy.
Define RDR
Runway Distance Remaining. Sign on the edge of the runway advising pilots how much runway is left. The sign that says 6 indicates at least 6,000 remains. Each sign has a number on two sides to indicate distance for each runway. The sum of the digits is 11. (i.e. the 4 sign for RY15 says 7 for RY33)
N4916B, C152, is mid field left downwind RY 33 for touch and goes. ME86, H/K35R, is over Brewer on final for touch and go. Can you provide visual separation for N4916B and turn him behind ME86?
No. The pilot of N4916B has to report the traffic in sight if time or radar separation is not utilized.
N64541, C152, is mid field left downwind RY 33 for touch and go. NASA87, H/DC87, is over the Brewer on final. NASA87 reports the traffic on the downwind in sight. Can you turn N64541 to follow NASA87?
No. N64541 must report the traffic in sight for the proper application of wake turbulence/visual separation unless time or radar separation is utilized.
7110.65 3-9-7
If ME86 turns crosswind at the VOR and final over the river, with 2 mile wide downwind, how many miles will they fly for a complete circuit for touch and go?
Approx 16 miles. RY is 2 miles long, VOR is 2 off dept end, river is 2 mile final, crosswind and base are 2 miles each, and downwind is 6.
ME87 is on midfield downwind RY33. ME86 is over CUVOT straight ILS for touch and go. Who is first?
If ME87 is on the mid field downwind, he has 7 miles to threshold remaining. It will be difficult to beat someone over CUVOT inbound final.
ME86 reports his landing weight will be 230,000 lbs. Is the aircraft still considered a "Heavy"?
Yes. Aircraft capable of takeoff weights of
300,000 pounds or more are Heavy whether or not they are
operating at this weight during a particular phase of
flight. Appendix A "Aircraft Weight Classes"
N8028P is VFR to BST. Using RY33, can the aircraft be allowed to proceed on course without coordination? If not, what heading should be assigned?
No. That would be outside the VFR departure cone. HDG 270 is appropriate IF no other conflicts.
N769 is VFR to B21. Using RY33, can the aircraft be allowed to proceed on course without coordination?
If not, what heading should be assigned?
Yes. That would be inside the VFR departure cone.
RY15 in use. CHQ6041 reports UMAIN inbound for the ILS approach. The RVR deteriorates to 1600. What must you do?
Issue the latest RVR. If the aircraft is past the final approach fix, he may continue the approach even it is below minimums.
Tower visibility drops from 7 to 5 BR. Do you need to report that to the wx observer?
No.
When is tower responsible for visibility reports?
Notify the weather observer when the tower
observes the prevailing visibility decrease to less than
4 miles or increase to 4 miles or more.
7110.65 2-6-6
N80471, C172 is mid field left down wind RY15 for touch and go. WOA34, H/DC10, departing full length. Can you have N80471 make short approach with just a wake turbulence advisory?
No. The pilot of N80471 needs to be maintaining visual separation / spacing behind the preceding heavy aircraft/B757.
7110.65 3-9-7(c)4
How many Cessna Citations are Large?
None.
How many Cessna Citations are Cat II for the purpose of SRS?
None. All turbojet aircraft regardless of weight, are Cat III
7110.65 3-9-6
MAINE86, H/K35R is on the VOR-A circle RY15 on 4 mile final. WIG1045, BE99, is LUAW RY15 waiting for traffic to exit. Is wake turbulence advisory necessary to WIG1045 with takeoff clearance?
No. Any questions, ask you trainer.
PACK22, H/K35R, is making an approach to RY15 then circling to RY33. ME88, H/K35R, is straight in ILS RY33 full stop. PACK22 is no. 2 for landing sequence. Can you provide visual separation for PACK22?
Yes. If you have both aircraft in sight, visual separation can be applied by local controller up to the point that any wake turbulence rules/separation is required.
N4916B, C152, at TWY M for departure RY15. ME86, H/K35R, is making touch and goes. ME86 touches down abeam TWY M. If there is wake turbulence delay for N4916B, how long is the delay?
2 minutes. The 3−minute interval is not required when: The intersection is 500 feet or less from the departure point of the preceding aircraft and both aircraft are taking off in the same direction.
710.65 3-9-7(b)
When is an aircraft making touch and goes considered a departure?
Consider an aircraft cleared for a touch-and-go, low approach, or practice approach as an arriving aircraft until that aircraft touches down or crosses the landing threshold; thereafter, consider the aircraft as a departing aircraft
7110.65 4-8-12
1453Z wx is 8 BKN, VSBY 7sm. WIG1045, BE99, lands RY33 and is unable to make TWY L and continues to TWY M. WIG8406, C208, Is on short final RY33. WIG1045 will not be clear of runway. Can WIG8406 be cleared to land?
Yes. SRS rules apply. Between sunrise and
sunset, if you can determine distances by reference to
suitable landmarks and the other aircraft has landed,
it need not be clear of the runway if the following
minimum distance from the landing threshold exists.....

7110.65 3-10-3
CHQ6790, E135, is in position, RY33. OAE66, B752, has just rotated at the 3,000 RDR sign (approx 8,000 down the runway). When can CHQ6790 be cleared for takeoff?
When there will be 4 miles radar separation when CHQ6790 is airborne.
7110.65 5-5-4, 3-9-6
RY33 is active. Wx 10SM 050BKN. ME86, H/K35R, inbound RY15 7 mile final and has not checked in. AWI3779, CRJ2, rolling RY33. assigned heading 300. You have both aircraft in sight. When can you frequency change AWI3779?
When you have standard IFR separation. 3 miles or 1000 ft. By definition aircraft are considered opposite direction. With visual separation you need to be talking to one of the aircraft. 7110.65 1-2-2, 7-2-1
RY15 is active. Wx 10SM 050BKN. PACK22, H/K35R, inbound RY33 7 mile final and has not checked in. AWI3779, CRJ2, rolling RY15. assigned heading 200. You have both aircraft in sight. When can you frequency change AWI3779?
Once AWI3779 is established on the heading. By definition, AWI3779 has crossed the path of PACK22. 7110.65 1-2-2 or 6-3-1
WX is 5SM and 8BKN. OAE66, H/B763 on ILS RY 33 on 5 mile final. LFT1, A109, has been issued IFR clearance via copter 151 and calls LCL for release. Approach advised that LFT1 is RLSD subject OAE66. Can LFT1 be released?
No. The Copter 151 is less than 3 miles from the inbound ILS course. When can LFT1 be RLSD?
How many published holding patterns in BGR airspace?
None. Holding patterns which can be stated "hold as published" are published on enroute charts. 7110.65 4-6-1(b)2 note
ME86 is on the ILS RY33 1/2 mile CUVOT. The pilot states he is on an 11 mile final. What does this tell you?
CUVOT is 6.3 miles from the approach end RY33. This means the pilot is getting DME information from BGR, not I-BGR.
0353Z wx is 8 BKN, VSBY 7sm. WIG8406, C208, lands RY33 and is unable to make TWY K and continues to TWY L. WIG8405, C208, Is on short final RY33. WIG1045 will not be clear of runway. Can WIG8405 be cleared to land?
No. SRS rules apply between sunrise and sunset for arrivals. In this case the unless the sunsets at 22:53 EST (23:53 EDT), its a no go.
N414DH, CL30, waiting to depart RY33 K. AWI3779, CRJ2, departs full length RY33. How long is the wake turbulence delay? Or is there one.
Three minutes waiverable. CL30 is S+. CRJ2 is L.
