ALso approves controls for acquiring, receiving, storing, distributing, using, transferring, and disposing of radioactive material to ensure compliance with the AFMML, NRC policy and guidance, and other requirements.

Installation Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) Role in The Radiation Safety Program
|
Provides consultant support to the installation commander on radiation protection issues and keeps installation commanders informed about radiation health and safety issues and effectiveness of measures to control radiation hazards. Is usually the base BE Engineer with additional training as a radiation safety officer.

Organization RSO Role in The Radiation Safety Program
|
Provides assistance to commanders in developing organization-specific radiation safety operating instructions and radiation safety manuals,conducts other requirements as specified by regulation or USAF radioactive material (RAM) permits, and maintains and manages records as required by AFOSH 48-137.

Workplace Supervisor Role in The Radiation Safety Program
|
Ensures workers follow all safety procedures, prepare the radiation frequency report, and conduct safety awareness training for all personnel that may have RFR exposure.

BE Role in The Radiation Safety Program
|
The central focal point and expert on radiation hazards and biological effects with support as needed from USAFSAM and the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL). Each base level flight establishes a radiation safety program for each type of radiation that is present on the base.
