What significant side effect can chloramphenicol cause in children?
Grey Baby Syndrome - rapid, severe heart failure

Causes uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation (ETC/Cell respiration) specifically in heart tissues causing shock, cyanosis, and death
What severe side effect is associated with PO Chloramphenicol?
Bone marrow toxicity which can lead to irreversible, fatal aplastic anemia
What should pts avoid when taking tetracyclines?
Magnessium, Calcium, Aluminum, and Iron within two hours of taking meds b/c it severely decreases absorption
What side effects can tetracycline cause?
Tooth discoloration if permanent dentition is not already in place

Pseudotumor cerebri (never give with isotretinoin, worry about it with obese, fertile women)
