acute phase response
is a result of immune system activation, and is induced by IL-1 (which starts the process), IL-6 and TNF-alpha
In response to these cytokines, the liver produces acute phase proteins, most notably c-reactive proteins (CRP), serum amyloid protein, complement proteins, fibrinogen (which is part of the clotting cascade), and other proteins.
