Cell Membrane
This is found only in plant cells. It give support and protects the cell.
Cell Wall
These are found only in plant cells. They contain a chemical called chlorophyll, and allow plants to store solar energy.
Chloroplasts
These structures are inside the nucleus. They carry the code that determines the makeup of the cell.
Chromosomes
The water gel inside of the cells. It helps hold all of the different organelles.
Cytoplasm
These organelles help process food and release energy to the cell.
Mitochondria
This protects the nucleus and allows substances to pass in and out.
Nuclear Membrane
The command center of the cell. It controls all cell activities.
Nucleus
The spaces in the cytoplasm where food is stored.
Vacuoles
The tendency of a substance to move from an area of greater concentration to an area of lesser concentration.
Diffusion
The diffusion of water through a membrane.
Osmosis
The process by which plants use carbon dioxide, water, and light energy to make food.
Photosynthesis
The process of using oxygen to release stored energy by breaking down sugar molecules.
Cell Respiration
The process when sugar is only broken down part way due to a lack of oxygen.
Fermentation
The substance that builds up as a bi-product of fermentation.
Lactic Acid
The process when a cell divides itself into two exact copies.
Mitosis
The specialization of cells.
Cell differentiation
Groups of specialized cells taht work together to do a specific job.
Tissues
A group of tissues that work together to do a specific job.
Organ
A group of organs that work together to do a job.
