MAC (MacConkey)- selective G-ve, differentiate lactose fermenters
CNA (colistin naladixic acid)- select G+ve.
Bacteria found as normal flora in sputum and their characteristics
Neisseria meningitidis- G-ve cocci, ox+ve
Streptococcus (viridans)- G+ve cocci, cat-ve
Haemophilus- G-ve bacilli(BCA agar)
Corynebacterium (diphtheroids)- G+ve bacilli, cat+ve
Moraxella G-ve cocci
Micrococcus- G+ve cocci, cat+ve, ox+ve
Staph epidermidis- G+ve cocci, cat+ve, ox-ve, coag+ve.

CIN (Cefsulodin, Irgasan, Novobiocin)- select G-ve and for yersinea and Aeromonas.
CAMP- select for campylobacter (microaerophilic environment @ 42 degrees)
TCBS- selects for vibrio
Selenite broth- assist growth of salmonella
What normal flora grows on XLD that is lactose fermenting?
E.coli
Aeromonas hydrophilia (also grows on CIN as large flat colonies)
Acid fast bacteria in sputum
