Jefferson Mays portrays dozens of characters in this one-man play, including the controversial Mahlsdorf herself and the American dramatist who becomes intrigued by her.
I Am My Own Wife
This new musical is set on a street in New York City where people and puppets live as neighbors and deal with some of life’s most thorny issues: romance, sex, money, career, paying the rent—and other matters unmentionable. The show tells the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q; still, the neighbors seem nice. There’s Brian, the out-of-work comedian, and his therapist fiancée, Christmas Eve; Nicky, the good-hearted slacker, and his roommate Rod, a Republican investment banker with a secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate Monster; and the building’s superintendent, Gary Coleman (yes, that Gary Coleman). Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

While the characters in Avenue Q include puppets, the show is not suitable for young children because it deals with adult themes.
Avenue Q

Allen began singing in country pubs at age 11, surviving family tragedy to become a local television star by the time he was 16. While performing in Hong Kong, he was discovered by Judy Garland, who took him under her wing. Allen later married Liza Minnelli, Garland’s eldest daughter. Worldwide fame followed as he went on to become a pop superstar and an Oscar-winning songwriter.
